HOW TO TURN FIVE DEAD MINUTES INTO A GAME

Sometimes turning a wait into a game only needs one ridiculous rule.

You are waiting.

For the waiter.

For the bus.

For somebody who said “five minutes” twenty minutes ago.

You could check your phone.

Again.

Or introduce one ridiculous rule.

For example:

choose a colour.

First person to spot five things in that colour wins.

You now have a goal.

You have rules.

You can win or lose.

And a completely ordinary situation has suddenly become something else.

That is the interesting thing about games. They do not always need boards, screens or thirty pages of instructions.

Sometimes they just need one rule.

And somebody willing to accept it.

Everything can be a game.
